Help shape the future of early childhood education
We’re recruiting two new trustees to join our Board and provide strategic guidance and strong governance for all our work. No previous trustee experience is needed. We’ll support you to learn from others and access training that suits your needs. You will need to be able to commit around 25 hours per year of voluntary time.
Application deadline: 5pm on Friday 26 June 2026.
Who we’re looking for
- UK-based educators with first-hand experience of Froebelian principles in practice and/or research who can commit time to attend our trustee meetings.
- Insight into the challenges and opportunities for practice development and research across today’s early childhood sector (including in primary education settings).
The Froebel Trust values inclusivity and our Council of trustees is diverse. We warmly welcome applications from colleagues who are often under-represented on trustee boards[i], and we’re keen to support new trustees to gain confidence and experience in the role.

About the Froebel Trust
We’re a small, friendly charity with a big reach. As a grant-making trust devoted to research and practice development in early childhood education, our grants, projects, courses and events support those who educate and care for young children (from birth to eight years). Our work champions play, learning through nature, hands-on experiences and children’s connection to community - rooted in the ideas of Friedrich Froebel, inventor of kindergarten.
[i] Research about trustee boards compared with the general population indicates that people who are from working class backgrounds, under 30 years of age, from diverse ethnic groups, who identify as LGBTQI+, with a disability or with direct lived experience of the people that charities aim to serve are under-represented - read more about the research on gov.uk and the Civil Society website.
