Dr Lynn McNair and Carol Cerdan share their Froebelian perspective on children’s self-regulation: how to use reflection and freedom with guidance to create more harmonious and inclusive relationships. A Froebel Trust webinar recorded on 30 March 2022
This webinar marked the release of a new title in our popular Froebel Trust pamphlet series. During the webinar the authors shared their Froebelian perspective on children’s self-regulation: how to use reflection and freedom with guidance to create more harmonious and inclusive relationships.
They consider:
- a democratic approach, rather than one based on rules and behaviour management strategies
- our own emotional impulses and how these can influence children.
Additionally, they illustrate how to look beyond the ‘act’ during difficult situations and when emotions may be running high.
The pamphlet looks at connections between children’s environments, experiences, emotions and behaviours. Using case studies from practice, the authors consider how educators can connect with the child’s unique world. They suggest ways to create a harmonious, democratic and empathetic community, in which children and adults develop the skills in self-regulation.

The webinar is aimed at all those who work with and support young children - educators, parents, carers and all those interested in early childhood education and the care of young children.
